A totally unique, handcrafted product - this is the image projected by the Borgward company’s bag for good as it appears on the scene. Like its automotive predecessor, it is made of top-grade materials coming from controlled production processes, and always appears with a red-coloured leather interior - the Borgward shade of red.
A small piece of eternity made of unusual leathers and Argentinian cowhides from cattle reared in the wide expanses of the pampas - this is what accounts for the product’s look and uniqueness. The bag is lined with the finest Italian horsehide nappa and the leather of Indian water buffalo from German tanneries protects and imparts stability to its base, adorned by a constantly-alternating pattern of quite off-beat ornamental studs. This buffalo leather makes its handles robust, giving them a touch of ruggedness which, in the weekender model, turns the article into a unisex bag.
High quality and a sense of timelessness are two of the many features that the design emphasizes here. A bag with all the qualities that make up a classic product, and whose hide and base studs also give it a unique appearance. A bag that forms a unified whole - with no outer seams, pure leather - that carries conviction with its simplicity. At the same time, it leaves plenty of scope for combinations, without any stylistic assertiveness, simply showing its presence paired with a sense of purism.
Without any compromises whatsoever, the bag’s understated appearance appeals to the onlooker, its own story being written by its personal vintage look, which it will surely evolve when accompanying its owner through the wear and tear of daily life.
It is handcrafted solely in Germany, based on manufacturing processes that meet the highest standards of sustainability. And the bag bears this iconic name - the name of a legend.
The Bremen manufacturing site is the origin of this bag, just as the Borgward company originated in this Hanseatic city, being permanently embedded in people's memories - and not only there - right up to the present day.
Petra Borgward, born 1966, bearing one of the names that has gone down in the history of Bremen. Since 1997, closely bonded with the third generation of the family whose grandfather, C.F.W. Borgward, 1890-1963, made German history - automotive history.
Driven by the idea of once again carrying this great name out into the world and creating a new personality for it. Full of respect for the achievements of C.F.W. Borgward, paired with her own feel for design, form and quality. Imbued with the idea of discovering a sense of serenity and creating a vintage product named after a vintage car. And the whole project, made in Germany, having the goal of making handbag history.
Wear it, feel it, love it, live it.
