Established in Brooklyn in 2011 by Raul Arevalo and Brad Schmidt, CADET is inspired by the post-war military academy era. CADET is a full collection of menswear and womenswear that captures the spirit and nostalgia mid-century America. CADET is a student of precision, focusing on quality and clean lines for a crisp aesthetic that honors classic silhouettes while continuing to push fashion forward with innovative fabrications and techniques.
CADET has significant editorial and business coverage from traditional and independent press. In 2014, The New York Times named CADET ‘Designers of the Williamsburg Look.” That same year, Esquire Magazine sponsored CADET’s first NYFW show for Spring 2015. CADET has gained additional recognition in 2015 being part of the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund, the International Woolmark Prize and winning the 2015 Design Entrepreneur NYC award. CADET has been dressing celebrities like Nick Jonas, Ben Stiller, Daniel Craig, Usher and even Kendall Jenner since its inception. Raul and Brad of CADET star in the upcoming Fashion Fund television show being released on Amazon Prime in Feb 2016.
Born in Mexico City, Raul studied menswear design at F.I.T in New York City graduating in 1995 after winning the Chairman’s Award for best menswear collection. Raul started his career in Technical Design at Abercrombie and Fitch. He went on to transform the fit and construction of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel for Target, Nordstrom, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Steve and Barryʼs, Converse and Club Monaco. Originally from Seattle, Brad previously worked as a technology integration consultant. As co-CEO of CADET, Brad manages the retail operations and contributes to the production side through sourcing, production planning and business development.
